Hyundai Motor Joins Hands with IITs on Battery and Electrification Research

Hyundai Motor Group on Tuesday announced partnerships with three Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) to establish a collaborative research system in the fields of batteries and electrification. The institutes include IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay and IIT Madras.

The Hyundai Center of Excellence (CoE), which will be set up within IIT Delhi, will operate through sponsorships from the Hyundai Motor Group. The primary objective of the Hyundai CoE is to take the lead in driving advancements in batteries and electrification, specifically designed to meet the unique requirements of the Indian market.

Hyundai India is set to enter the mainstream EV market with the launch of the Creta EV by January 2025. Powered by a 45 kWh battery pack and sharing its electric motor with the Kona EV, the Creta EV is expected to deliver 138 bhp and 255 Nm of torque from its front-mounted electric motor.

In addition to the upcoming Creta EV, Hyundai India plans to introduce three more all-electric models.
